Tools for promoting sustainability at workplaces in the audiovisual industry
The Avaus Sustainability Website provides information, practical guidebooks and tools related to sustainability in the audiovisual industry. The website provides support for everyone working in the film, television, advertising and video industries for the practical implementation of sustainability in their work. The content of the website is freely accessible to everyone from employees to companies.
The toolkit of Avaus contains content produced by many different organisations and experts. The content has been selected taking into account the special features of the audiovisual industry. The materials in the toolbox take into account the different dimensions of sustainability: ecological, social, cultural, economic, and governance.
How did Avaus come about
Finland to become the most sustainable country in the world for audiovisual production.
In 2023, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment of Finland published a growth agreement in which the common goal was to make Finland the most sustainable country in the world for audiovisual production. Audiovisual Producers Finland – APFI is a key member in a working group tasked with taking the Finnish audiovisual industry towards the goals of this agreement.
APFI’s current Avaus Sustainability Project centres around social responsibility and enabling more sustainable structures in the industry. The Avaus Sustainability Website was created as part of this project to support more sustainable daily choices and to function as a hub for sustainability-related information. Anyone can suggest content for the site – see instructions at the bottom of the page.
The Avaus Sustainability Project also organises training and events as well as produces research data. The Ministry of Education and Culture has granted the project funding from the structural fund for culture and creative industries (EU Recovery and Resilience Facility, RRF). After the project, the website will be maintained and updated by APFI.

Sustainability means communities, companies and individuals making active choices to promote a sustainable future. Every one of us has a chance to make a difference.
One of APFI’s central tasks is to make the audiovisual industry part of a wider societal sustainability transformation process that aims to secure good living opportunities for current and future generations.
